Expectation:
This is one of the newer books we got in the bookstore I work in. I read the Croatian translation. English title is Readers of Broken Wheel recommend. The first thing that annoyed me was the title translation: Croatian title is something like a Reader in search of a happy ending.
Summary
It is a story about a woman from Sweden that travels to a little American town in the middle of nowhere – Broken Wheel, Iowa, USA. She used to work in a bookstore in a shopping center but lost the job when it closed. Her pen friend from America invites her for a visit.
The pen friend aside, I had a strange tragedy-comedy relationship with this book. For one; I work in a bookstore in a shopping center. Most of the banter and jokes in the book were only meant to be understood by passionate book lovers. There is this one part where the main character asks for sad books to have a warning on them like cigarettes and alcohol have.
Conclusion
This was my light read book for the Summer! It is a light book depicting a world much lighter than our own, has a romance feel to it and for those who needed provides a few more serious questions on life, relationships and existence. I had a few laughs and some parts made me want to drink myself silly.
