Book a Day – Factotum

Book a Day I read because of my reading club – August 2018

There were months when most of the books I read were book club books! I always had issues with reading books I did not pick out for myself and by joining multiple book reading groups I was trying to broaden my views and try out reading books out of my comfort zone.

Factotum by Charles Bukowski was not my pick for book club reading but it was an author I was interested in. Book club meeting was in March 2017. and the moderator was one of the few male readers in our book club. We all agreed that the book was filled with cynical anecdotes and inspired by real life. Some readers did not like it very much.

“Frankly, I was horrified by life, at what a man had to do simply in order to eat, sleep, and keep himself clothed. So I stayed in bed and drank. When you drank the world was still out there, but for the moment it didn’t have you by the throat.”
― Charles Bukowski, Factotum

I liked the book even though some of the lines hit me very hard and shook me in relation to real life events and conditions. Maybe this is the reason I did not make any reviews except for few short comments on Goodreads. Now that I go trough all these books I read for book club I realize just how many I did not write a review on and it makes me even more glad I decided to look back on some of them this August!
