1. How many books you’ve read last month? Are you happy with the amount you read?

After a long time I am feeling really positive with my reading. This March I’ve read ten books and I’m officially back in double digit numbers! This alone is a cause for celebration!

2. What was the best of all the books you’ve read in March? Any scenes or characters that made a lasting impression?

The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood is my book of the month this March. I’m still under the impression of the book and can’t wait for the TV adaptation and book club meeting to chat my fill on the subject – both are scheduled later in April. Second best read was a manga I was harboring on my shelf unread for almost a decade – Fushigi Yûgi: Genbu Kaiden, Vol. 01 by Yuu Watase. I forgot how fun it was to read manga. The little details and notes from the author were very good and I enjoyed them a lot.

3. Were there any not so good books for you last month? What made it hard or not enjoyable to read?

My least favorite book from March was The Second Wife by Elizabeth Buchan. On its own was not a bad book. But in comparison with the rest of awesome books I’ve read in March it kinda flopped. I took it on as a reading assignment for a book club. My expectations were not met and I was bothered by the lack of passion in a book I expected to be a romance novel with slightly complicated plot. It was a contemporary novel from a perspective of a “younger woman who stole a husband from a first wife”. Honestly the lack of love and lifelessness of the main characters were what made me give the book only two stars.

4. How did the books you were reading last month fit in your reading plans if you had any?

I am happy to report that for April I’m already ahead with my designated reading on both books. What made me the happiest was actually finally finishing The Bane Chronicles collection.

5. Any updates on the series you are reading or are you starting any new series?

I’m up to date with Magnus Chase series and started one new book series I was eyeing for a few years not. I’m expecting problems with continuing Fushigi Yûgi: Genbu Kaiden, manga series as they are now a bit harder to come by but I won’t let that discourage me.

6. Would you like to recommend any books or authors you’ve been reading this last month?

I’m very much into Margaret Atwood at the moment and would recommend The Handmaid’s Tale to everyone before the TV show distorts the book to the general population – I already see some differences between the book and the show that make me cringe. Rick Riordan and Cassandra Clare remain my favorites in almost anything the write 🙂

10570I had to add this cover on a book by Croatian author Lea Brezar because I think it’s simple and cool!

Final thoughts on March reading

My spirits are high and my energy feels renewed with how much happy I am at the amount of reading I managed to do in March. There were lots of YA themed books in March and that’s okay for me. Getting back to reading manga edition will be interesting. I got some new books I will soon post about.

Happy reading all 🙂

1. How many books you’ve read last month? Are you happy with the amount you read?

I have read six books and I’m happy for them in particular if not for the sheer number. I feel positive about my reading numbers climbing. It is a good start of the year reading wise.

2. What was the best of all the books you’ve read in January? Any scenes or characters that made a lasting impression?

The book I enjoyed most was Bane chronicles part 10. I love the character of Magnus Bane and the writing style of Cassandra Clare. I liked the new Harry Potter story and was so enamored with Scorpius Malfoy that I might go back to looking up fanfiction sites for more stories with this character.

3. Were there any not so good books for you last month? What made it hard or not enjoyable to read?

Finishing Storm’s Heart by Thea Harrison brought me relief. I decided to go a bit harsh on it since it is a genre I love reading. The lack of enjoyment in reading it alone made me rate it with two stars out of five at first. Afterwards I reconsidered it and opted for three stars instead. While getting into this book was so hard that it took me almost a year to read it trough ending it had some redeeming qualities. The romance part of the book was not very interesting to me but after the couple was set and the author turned to some other things like world building and presenting of new characters for future books I was intrigued. Next book looks much more promising and tempting.

4. How did the books you were reading last month fit in your reading plans if you had any?

I was overly optimistic about my reading plans and while the books I’ve read matched them I am left with some books I’ve planned to read in January untouched and barely started. I was happy for finishing all book club required books and finishing up those I’ve been dragging on since last year. Only one that is a last year left over now is Bane Chronicles extra chapter since I can’t get a hold of it. Serves me right for not being able to buy the whole collection when I saw it in the bookstore :/

5. Any updates on the series you are reading or are you starting any new series?

Lately I’ve been reading lots of books that are not part of the series and only squeezing in a series book every once a while. This is a complete opposite of what my reading habits and tastes were when I started this blog. A book series favorite Harry Potter is once again done. I’ve moved and finished a second book in Elder Races book series and might even get to the third book by Easter. Bane Chronicles are almost done! Ottoline was a nice spur of the moment surprise and if I get the chance I will read the other parts as well.

6. Would you like to recommend any books or authors you’ve been reading this last month?

Françoise Sagan was a thought inspiring read and as much as I love recommending my favorite authors and UF books I strongly recommend reading one of her works.

Final thoughts on January reading

Finishing off some long time started books has given me energy for starting on new books. While I have not done all my planned reading I am in the middle of reading some excellent books and I have a really good feeling about February 🙂

1. How many books you’ve read last month? Are you happy with the amount you read?

I’ve been stuck on some books  (still am!) that are simply not working out for me. To remedy this fatal condition I’ve been reading The Bane Chronicles chapters daily. I’m still missing the last one and the extra story that comes in this collection. Aside that I’ve read only one whole book. Month has been busy with many TV series and games and for that reason my reading has suffered…

imagesweeks…try months….

2.  What made it hard or not enjoyable to read?

Jane Austen is killing me slowly. While I’m reading Sense and Sensibilities I often feel like I would have more fun staring at the wall. Fake characters and pretend well mannered ones are annoying me to no end. I keep trying to read it but every other page something makes me cringe. And then I think to myself: I’ve read many historical romance drama books that were fun to read, why is this one turning out so bad for me?

3.How did the books you were reading last month fit in your reading plans if you had any?

I’m so tilted in my reading lately that I can’t focus on any reading plan. Most I can to  is keep up with my RL book club assignments. 😦

4. Any updates on the series you are reading or are you starting any new series?

I haven’t made any progress with book series I am interested in and haven’t started any new ones either. I think my book series mojo has left me…

Final thoughts on September reading:

I would love to find last two stories from Bane Chronicles so I can make a full review on them. Hoping that now that September back to  school madness is over my job will leave me with more reading time available.  I’m trying to get a reading fix with some new historical romance book or good book series. I am aware that pushing trough this dry spell will require more determination.

I suppose it has been a long time since I was in the middle of reading this many books. Not since last year had I more than 5 books in reading at the moment situation. I’m back at choosing my reading according to my mood. Here are the many books I’m in the middle of reading this September!

Storm’s Heart (Elder Races book #2)

by Thea Harrison

Something about this book just doesn’t sit well with me. I’ve said it all before in last months RIP (reading in progress) post. Some progress since then but just barely.

Sense and Sensibility

by Jane Austen

Originally this was my RL book club assignment for September. I still haven’t finished it even though we already had the discussion. I have trouble with motivating myself to continue since I already know what is going to happen from the discussion we had…

The Bane Chronicles

by Cassandra Clare

I’ve been reading a story from this collection each night. I love the main character and he was my favorite from Mortal Instruments book series. These little snippets reveal just enough to make me interested in some other works by the same author.

Angel: The End

by Bill Willingham et al

I’ve started reading this compilation this August for Read Comics in Public Day ( happens every year 28th of August). It has been on my TBR for a long while. I bought it few years back. The pages are not numbered so I’m not exactly sure what page I’m on…

Ensaio Sobre a Cegueira

by Jose Saramago

Another RL book club assignment for September due later this month. I barely started it to get a feel to the book and hope that I will finish it in time to have enough time to watch the movie based on the book too.

With all this I have a few bits I read on my Kindle in the middle of the night when I can’t sleep. Also I will probably take on Foundation by Isaac Asimov by the end of the month since I have RL book club discussion on it first week of October.

Wish me luck!
